Cleaning leather furniture like sofa sets, or a recliner leather chair is not as simple as it might appear on the surface. Leather is a tricky material and can sometimes not last you as long as you might hope if you don’t take proper care of it.
Your very first line of defense against worn leather is to dust. Dust like crazy! Take a cloth duster like Swiffer or something similar and run it over your furniture at least three times a week. Build up of dust on a leather couch can be the first thing that begins to wear away at it.
Second, never have anything sharp near your furniture. Scissors and knives are complete no-no’s when it comes to leather. Puncturing the leather can cause it to shrink up and eventually that tiny little hole will become a really big problem.
Thirdly, only use specific leather cleaners on your leather sofas etc. Using water will actually cause the leather to dry out, become brittle, and crack due to the evaporation process. Leather wipes, like the ones they sell for cars, are specially designed to keep your leather looking sleek, shiny, and without cracks.
